Health checkup of Gujarat Media Club (GMC) journalists at Morengo CIMS Hospital

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], August 28: Marengo Sims Hospital and Gujarat Media Club jointly conducted a health checkup camp for journalists in Ahmedabad over the weekend.

A large number of journalist couples – from print media, electronic and digital – got their medical examination done at the CIMS premises in Ahmedabad.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Anish Chandrana of CIMS Hospital said, “For a healthy body, one needs to include green vegetables and millets like barley in the diet and physical exercise in their daily routine. The first happiness is a healthy body. In our scriptures, also, a healthy body has been described as the first happiness. People also want to be healthy but are unable to take measures for it. Apart from this, they want to give up substances like alcohol, tobacco and smoking but are unable to give up, and this is the habit of a healthy person, which leads to illnesses.”

On the organ donation aspect, Dr. Dhaval Nayak from CIMS said that there is a lack of awareness about organ donation in India. There are only 8,000-10,000 donor kidneys available against the requirement of over 2 lakh every year in the country. Apart from this, 50,000 hearts are needed for transplant every year, whereas only 100-150 are available. Therefore, one must not keep misconceptions or taboos about organ donation. People should pay attention to organ donation so that society can remain healthy. Nirnay Kapoor, President of Gujarat Media Club, informed that the Gujarat Media Club, in association with the State Organ Tissue & Transplantation Organization (SOTTO), is working for awareness of organ donation in society. As per the available data, last year in Gujarat, 670 living people and 203 brain-dead people’s relatives decided to donate organs, which gave new life to 817 people.”
